starting in october. i don't think this obama campaign are going to let it go quietly through the three debates. >> we withanks >>> good evening, americans. and welcome to "the ed show." i'm ezra klein in for ed schultz, and there is 55 days until the 2012 election. the tragic events in libya today have turned into ugly politics in america. this has genuinely been one of those 24-hour periods that could reshape not only the presidential campaign, but american foreign policy going forward. we'll have all the details. as ed would say, let's get to work. today was an incredibly important day in the u.s. presidential race. in response to the awful attacks in libya, mitt romney said something that was genuinely unbelievable. and then more amazing, he doubled down on it. this is the kind of thing, the kind of day we could look back on the 2012 campaign and say, yeah, romney just never quite managed to recover from that. here's romney and obama today. >> i think it's a -- a -- a terrible course for america, to stand in apology for our values. >> there's a broader lesson to be learned

this film, as you menged in your intro, that's a red herring and the media is going along with the obama administration, pretending like this is a protest against some phantom video on youtube? no. it's because the obama administration dropped the ball. and they have not taken head-on, this war on terrorism, and they have adopted a foreign policy of appeasement where our enemies no longer fear us and our friends can no longer trust us. the media's going along with the idea, the false narrative of this video being the cause of this chaos. >> sean: we will get into the media tonight later because their handle ago they are blaming romney. thank god romney spoke out in defense of his country after our embassy was attacked and our flags were ripped down and in egypt -- i'm sorry, in benghazi, we had an ambassador and three other people killed, his body dragged through the streets after it's reported in "the washington times," he was sodomized before he was killed. this wasn't supposed to happen under president obam a. he went to corow, world peace was going to break out as he went on this apo

and say, yeah, romney just never quite managed to recover from that. here's romney and obama today. >> i think it's a -- a -- a terrible course for america, to stand in apology for our values. >> there's a broader lesson to be learned here, and you know, governor romney seems to have a tendency to shoot first and aim later. and as president, one of the things i've learned is that you can't do that. it's important for you to make sure that the statements that you make are backed up by the facts and that you've thought through the ramifications before you make them. >> we will get into all of that tonight. i promise you will we will do the campaign in detail. but before we do, in an election year, presidential politics has a tendency to overshadow everything else. there's a tendency to only care about real genuinely important events in terms of their effect on the campaign. but what happened over the last 24 hours in libya and cairo needs to be understood on its own terms first, because the ramifications could be with us for quite a while, no matter who is president. and so we should start

with a nuclear weapon is unacceptable, and by the way, i'm quite sure president obama when he says that, he means it and intends to stand by it. i think america is also giving a very strong message to iran, but everybody wants to resolve this without a conflict because that is sensible and the best way of doing it, because the consequences of any conflict would be very serious, profoundly unpredictable. >> let's see what bjamin netanyahu today. he had this extraordinary chart he produced which was very effective. take a look. >> so how much enriched uranium do you need for a bomb? and how close is iran to getting it. let me show you. brought a diagram for you. here's the diagram. >> there was the diagram. he went on to show where the red line was. he basically said look, the process and speed of the enriching of uranium going on in iran, they could have a nuclear bomb ready to use by next summer. do you believe that? do you have any evidence for that? have you seen anything -- >> look, what the evidence is is something i wouldn't really comment on and by the way, there will be a lot of informatio
